Metode 2 (effektiv): 
En effektiv løsning er som følger

vi vet at (n+i)=(n^i)+2*(n&i)
Så n + i = n ^ i innebærer n & i = 0
Derfor reduseres problemet vårt til å finne verdier av i slik at n & i = 0. Hvordan finne antall slike par? Vi kan bruke antallet ikke-innstilte biter i den binære representasjonen av n. For at n & i skal være null, må jeg deaktivere alle sett-biter av n. Hvis den kth biten er satt til en bestemt i n kth bit i i må alltid være 0 ellers kan kth bit av i være 0 eller 1
Derfor er totalt slike kombinasjoner 2^(antall ikke-innstilte biter i n)
Tenk for eksempel på n = 12 (Binær representasjon: 1 1 0 0). 
Alle mulige verdier av i som kan deaktivere alle biter av n er 0 0 0/1 0/1 der 0/1 betyr enten 0 eller 1. Antall slike verdier av i er 2^2 = 4.
